Do you have all your DUX in a row?? Hahaha! Sorry, I had to! This is a magnificent set of six Scandinavian Modern dining chairs by Folke Ohlsson for DUX. They are comprised of gorgeous teak frames with four straight legs, stretchers between the sides, slat backs with a slight outward bend or curved angle at the top, when viewed from the side, they have kind of a leaned back dimension. And we feel as though they have probably been reupholstered fairly recently in a fabulous gold and brown striped and patterned fabric. They’re GORGEOUS!! There are four side and two arm or captains’ chairs in this set of six and they are ready to grace your home with Scandinavian Modern excellence!! Folke Ohlsson is a Scandinavian modern Swedish furniture designer who was born in 1919, raised, and educated in Sweden. But in 1953 Ohlsson moved to the United States and established Dux, Inc. an American iteration, or namesake of the Scandinavian furniture industry’s largest manufacturer of upholstered furniture. This creation of an American company producing Scandinavian furniture may be for what Folke Ohlsson is best remembered. Well, that and the invention/introduction of knock-down furniture which is still used today by the likes of Ikea! Ohlsson headquarter the company in San Francisco for three years before moving it to Burlingame, California in 1956. Over the years other great designers i.e., Bruno Mathsson and Edward J Wormley did designs for the company, but it was the designs of Folke Ohlsson’s armchair and sofas that were prized for their traditional details and modernist simplicity not to mention formal recognition and awards. Folke Ohlsson passed on October 23, 2002.
