It’s like the old saying… “A mother’s work is NEVER done!” Oh, the beloved struggles of motherhood! Especially in the oh-so-hot Tanzania, Mozambique, and Kenya sun! All you want to do is go back to the hut and continue your wood carving in peace but is that possible? Of course not! The children must come first and because your toddler and his brother decided to roll in the mud puddle behind the hut… here you are, one child holding tightly to your hand and the other on your back in a papoose, headed to bathe them in the Ruvuma river down the hill from the village. Who knows, maybe after the bath you will get some time. But you’re not holding your breath! Mothers around the world just don’t get the credit they deserve. The struggle is REAL… wherever you live!! This is a phenomenal hand carved ebony wood Tribal art sculpture of a mother and her children. The Makonde Tribe are a Bantu speaking community who live on both sides of the Ruvuma river, which forms the border for both sides. The women in the tribe are considered attractive by her facial tattoos… if you notice the face of this sculpture… she is ONE LOVELY LADY!! Not to mention all her other natural features!! She has intricately carved details and exudes Tribal art excellence! She will blend in beautifully with other Tribal pieces or she will stand proudly on her own in a display cabinet, on an end or side table, or shelf in any room you choose! Makonde women are known for their bold, strong, free spirit, and independent character… we think this sculpture is a magnificent representation of the Makonde Tribal women, don’t you? Well then, make her YOURS!!!
