Carlo Antonio and Vittorio Raineri (father and son) were decorative artists who worked in the Lombard and Ligurian areas in the 18th and 19th century. They specialized in the highly colorful and exotic interior design that was so fashionable at the time (Scuola d’Ornato). Vittorio Raineri took after his father Cluadio Antonio Raineri by specializing in decorative paintings of birds, plants, and butterflies. Together, he and his father decorated villas and residences in Lombardy, such as the Villa Reale di Monza and the Palazzi Perego and Anguissola in Milan. While many of his avian works are based on prints published in Comte de Buffon’s, Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux (Paris 1770-1786), many others are based on the artist’s free interpretations. Vitto Raineri lived from (1797-c. 1869)
